When a door closes you may feel rejection, lose, doubt, or loneliness. However, truth can trail feelings and truth delivers a redirection one step closer, a gift of strength one dose larger, and faith one measure greater. Hold onto that truth, and wait for it with joyous anticipation. For it is the closing of doors that lead you towards your true self and closer to the doors designed for only you to open in due time. This is what I’ve been reflecting on in myself after hearing of my closed door opportunity.
Before I could write about it, I wanted to listen and learn how I could turn my experience into words of hope to inspire others experiencing similar situations in life. It happens to us all. I may not have received my chance at a Fulbright National Geographic fellowship this year, but it is because of this closed door that I am even closer to my far greater potential. I will use this experience to lift me up, and refuse to let feelings cloud my truth. Personally, it’s just another day learning how to live life in the ‘in-between’. I firmly hold onto my hope and faith for a new door to open that is immeasurably more than all I could ask or imagine. In the meantime, I’ll keep moving forward one small step at a time and be open to finding joy in the unexpected. I’m kicking my old habits of chasing harder, fighting stronger, and battling for more. This time, I’d rather reflect, listen, be, and hope to receive in a new way.
Be inspired by your closed doors, and thank them for a stronger self before giving them the bird as you charge forward more aligned with your purpose.
In the wise words of Ernest Hemingway, "The world breaks everyone, and afterward, some are strong at the broken places." Be that strength!
